Uniper enters development partnership for 600 megawatt onshore wind power portfolio in Poland

2024/6/3

Uniper and Poland-based project developer WAP Energia have entered a development partnership for an onshore wind power portfolio in Poland.

The partnership covers six separate early-stage onshore wind projects with a target of up to 600 megawatt (MW) total capacity.

Uniper will have full control over the development progress and costs. The projects spread across the Western part of Poland. They will contribute to Uniper’s target to develop ten Gigawatt (GW) of renewable energy projects to ready-to-build status by 2030.

Target is to develop ten Gigawatt of renewable energy

Jörg Lennertz, the CEO of Uniper Renewables said: “Poland is experiencing rapid growth in renewable energy generation and is one of our core markets to develop renewables.

As part of our strategic vision, our Uniper team in Poland together with local partners is expanding the pipeline in wind and photovoltaic in the Polish market to Gigawatt scale. Next to co-development partnerships we are expanding our own origination and greenfield development capacities.”

Uniper’s strategy is focused on driving the transformation of the energy industry through flexible, balanced and bespoke forms of energy generation.

To this end, the company is transforming its own power plants, facilities and investing in flexible and secure power generation assets. In total, approximately €8 billion is to be invested in green growth and transformation between 2023 and 2030.

This includes investments in solar and wind power plants, where significant growth is targeted. In 2030, Uniper aims to use more than 80 percent of its installed power plant capacity for CO2-free electricity production.

Overall, Uniper aims to develop ten gigawatts of onshore wind and solar PV farms across key European markets, including Germany, France, UK, Italy, Sweden, Hungary, and Poland, by 2030, to ready to build status. Additionally, Uniper is committed to bringing three GW of renewables to investment maturity by 2026.

Uniper is a hydrogen pioneer

Düsseldorf-based Uniper is active worldwide along the entire hydrogen value chain, and is conducting projects to make hydrogen a mainstay of the energy supply. In total, the company has activities in more than 40 countries. Uniper and its roughly 7,000 employees make an important contribution to supply security in Europe, particularly in its core markets of Germany, the United Kingdom, Sweden, and the Netherlands.

The company is progressively expanding its gas portfolio to include green gasses like hydrogen and biomethane and aims to convert to these gasses over the long term.

Uniper believes it’s a reliable partner for communities, municipal utilities, and industrial enterprises for planning and implementing innovative, lower-carbon solutions on their decarbonisation journey.
